Objectives and Goals
Our objective is to promote locally, the use of the bicycle as a sport and as an environmentally friendly,
alternative means of transportation, and to promote the development of bicycle infrastructures in our region.
The Forum's goals are as follows:
- UPGRADE: Improve and complement the Biking experience for all the different bike-styles in the region.
- SUSTAINABILITY: Create infrastructures to last, with minor or no maintenance.
- COMPATIBILITY: Avoid conflicts between users other than bikers.
- ENVIRONMENT: Safeguard plant and animal life, protect historic / archeological landmarks and sites, avoid erosion and detriment of the landscapes.
- STIMULATE REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT: Revenue from bike tourism to the region.
Our scope: We are a regional organization, and we focus our work in the "Jerusalem Corridor" region of Israel, with the city of Beit Shemesh located in its center. Beit Shemesh is a rapidly growing city of 70,000, surrounded by the Yehuda Hills to the east (200 – 800 mts. asl.), and Yehuda Plains to the west (200 – 400 mts. asl). Our region's east boundary is the city of Jerusalem, and the western border is the coastal plain. The region is located in the heart of Israel, adjacent to the two main metropolitan areas of the country: Beit Shemesh is at 35 kms. distance from Jerusalem, and 45 kms. from Tel Aviv. The region is blessed by breathtaking scenery, scores of archeological sites mostly related to the Bible, and many other tourist and recreational features.
